Mabel is a tripod hound who lost her leg to cancer and soon found herself surrendered to a Bladen County, NC shelter at 10 years old because her family could no longer afford her care.
Thanks to fate, Mabel landed in our NJ home as a hospice foster. We weren’t sure what to expect or if we could handle the task, but we knew we needed to do our best to allow Mabel to live out her golden years in the comfort of a home surrounded by love. Little did we know that Mamma Mabel would teach us about strength of character, compassion, and unconditional love. Over a year later she is still alive and well and living her best life. She LOVES taking in fellow pups in need. Mamma Mabel is a sweet girl with a silly personality and enjoys playing tricks on us.
Despite her missing limb, sudden uprooting from her life long home, and hard-fought battle against cancer, Mamma Mabel takes life as it comes and adjusts amazingly well to change. To watch her welcome new fosters into her Inn is to witness unconditional love. Because of Mamma Mabel, we know our calling is to help seniors and special ability dogs live out their lives in comfort and with dignity. Every foster that comes to our sanctuary gets to hear our promise “you are loved more than you know and will never be alone again”.
